Title Platinum Edition 1.3 for TI-89 and TI-89 Titanium
Description The Platinum Edition of Phoenix! This is an advanced shoot-em-up game, with very smooth gameplay with many objects onscreen. It has grayscale, scrolling backgrounds, many different types of enemies, many different levels, the ability to buy additional items, eight possible weapons for your ship, a high score table, multiple difficulty levels, and allows you to save the game at any point. The game only takes about 22K of your memory. It is supplied with full source code. The program may be copied or modified without any restrictions. This is a nostub program so no shell or kernel is required. Don't forget to also check out Mercury, the sequel to this game.

Note! This review was written for a previous version of this file!

“Platinum Edition” is a great new version of “Phoenix.” First of all, it has perfect compatibility with the 89 Titanium. Secondly, the new scrolling background looks cool. Third, the enemies have new, different ways of entering the screen, such as flying up from the bottom. There are a number of weapons, and the player's ship is redesigned (though there is a classic ship option for anyone who wants it). The multiple hulls were removed in “Platinum,” but the improvements make up for their loss. Overall, this gets a 10 for being one of the best space shooters for 89.
